Name & Number Plates
Great care is taken in researching examples of plates. Where possible photographs of the original are used as reference material in the production of the master artwork. Please bear this in mind if commissioning new plates. Drawings and/or photo references are gratefully received and will help to cut down on book time and speed up the orders. You LNER men with curly 6’s & 9’s know what I mean.

Name plates are etched from either 8thou brass, or 5thou stainless steel to represent cast brass or chromium plated cast brass, smoke box plates are 5thou stainless steel.  Works plates are etched from 5thou brass and are at the very limit of chemical etching.
